I Believe You Can

21 Aug

I’m overwhelmed – in a good way. I’m overwhelmed by the orders, by the support, and by all the “likes” and comments you have all been giving me. Most of all, I’m overwhelmed by the thought of how good God has been to me despite my many mistakes. I don’t deserve any of this but I’m very very grateful. I work very hard to be a good mother and provider to my kids, and I work very hard on Coco Cakes, but I can’t take the credit because I know that I would not be in this blessed position without the goodness of God and your kindness and encouragement.

Not very long ago, I was always worrying, very fearful, unconfident, angry, and just trapped in a situation from bad decisions of the past. But God somehow made a way to change all of that and he used you to tell me a very simple thing: “You can do it Michelle. I believe you can.”

So I’m taking the time to return the encouragement and say:

“You can do it. _____place your name here______. I believe you can.”

Sometimes we browse the blogs of other people, we see their work, read their stories, and think, “What an amazing life this person has. I wish my life were like that.” I know because this happens to me all the time. We wish we were as thin as them, or as pretty as them, as white or as dark, as rich, as successful, as traveled, as secure, as loved, and etc. etc. But I hope that as you read these things, you are not discouraged or envious but are inspired by the fact that you can be just as successful or even more. For me, after living in a cage, I really had very little confidence in myself. I had actually given up my dreams and resigned myself to my unfulfilling life. But I’ve learned that God really does listen, He listens to even the silent prayers of my heart, and now, a little more than a year of Coco Cakes, I’m even more hopeful that something great is waiting for me.

This is why I believe we can, not because we’re anything special, but because we’re loved. So go out and take a step of faith. Live an amazing life. I believe you will. I believe you can.

Plants vs. Zombies Cake & Cupcakes

Plants vs. Zombies Cake & Cupcakes

This is an 8″ butter pound cake covered with fondant icing. I cut out small squares and made a checkerboard on top. If you’re familiar with the game Plants vs. Zombies, you will see that the plants and the zombies battle on top of a checkerboard, too.

Then I cut up different lengths of wooden planks and placed them on the side of the cake. I also got the inspiration from the game itself. And since the celebrant’s request is to have a lot of flowers around her cake, I made different colors of the flowers from the game, too.

For the cupcakes, I made different kinds of plant characters using gum paste. I think I was smiling the whole time I was making this project. Playing Plants vs. Zombies in the computer is one of the things my kids and I enjoy doing together, and they’re very good at it. And in a sense, they know the details of each of the characters. The  kids were very much involved in the quality control of my gum paste creations. Like for example, if you notice in the picture above I missed the sensor on top of the the potato bomb’s head. They pointed that out after I was done taking the pictures. I had to add them in the end.

Multi-Tasking!

12 Jul

For Father’s day, one client ordered creative cupcakes for her husband. She wanted all the brands that her husband uses. This was a fun project because I was working with three things I love: baking/cake decorating, painting and shopping! (Well, not exactly actual shopping…)

Talking about things I love, I’m reminded of a thought I had while baking this cake. That weekend was another packed one. Which I am very grateful for, that I got to do the things I love all at the same time…not to mention that my kids were also in the same room where all of that was happening. Talk about MULTI-TASKING!

I was used to having a lot of free time to myself. I used to have my time for baking, my time for painting, my time for playing with the kids, my time for foot spa, my time to read magazines from cover to cover, in short, I was bored and had nothing to do. Hehe. I am not whining about the things I don’t have now, I actually feel the opposite. Before, with all of the free time to myself to do whatever, I was not content. I am so grateful that amidst all of the chaos, I am now so fulfilled, fulfilled because I am doing things that I love, surrounded by people I love, what more could I ask for?
